Free Short Stories

Today, after a long absence from the blog, I thought I'd post a few links to some killer (and free!) short stories by some of the great novelists of our time. I've been collecting links here and there as I discover them (and there are many more to come) and I thought I'd share. Happy reading!

If you've digested and enjoyed David Mitchell's work, such as the brilliant novel comprised of a series of looping bookends Cloud Atlas, which is a personal favorite of mine, and his others including Ghostwritten, Black Swan Green, or Number9Dream, then perhaps you'll enjoy this short story as well:

"The Massive Rat" (Published in The Guardian)

Celebrated science fiction novelist and prolific blogger Tobias Buckell has a short story posted on Nature.com called "Toy Planes":

"Toy Planes" (Published on Nature.com)

A short story by Stephen King, who needs no introduction from the likes of me:

"Rest Stop" (Published in Esquire)

And Dave Eggers, author of the memoiresque novels What is the What and Zeitoun, as well as his own personal memoir A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, has a series of short stories (actually it's a serial novel) posted on Salon.com available to read for free.

Have a great day and enjoy!
